WORLD LIKE A VILLAGE - March 17, 2020
Beloved members of Hilldale, friends of our church, brothers and sisters.
We tend to think that we are far away from global turbulences here in Thunder Bay. However, all of a sudden we have been shown that our world is like a single village where everything is connected and in interaction. We are tied together in both good and bad.
Like other faith communities in our city, we have also decided to close the doors of our church temporarily. This is because of the threat of the possible spread of the coronavirus.
Cancelling various activities and celebrations is beyond frustrating. Instead of worshipping on Sundays, we are asked to stay at home and limit our social life.
Dear friends, let us remember that the church will not collapse or disappear. We are people of God. Our holy faith often grows and empowers us during exceptional times. The doors of Hilldale are closed until further notice, “but God’s word is not chained.” (2 Timothy 2:9)
This is a time of prayers and intercessions at homes and in the depths of our hearts. The Lord surely has something to say to us as individuals and as communities.
Jesus Christ is the Savior of our village, which is now suffering and filled with anxiety. The Gospel of Christ is both global and universal: “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
